Robert S. Bowles Elected Moderator of Synod

The Rev. Dr. Robert S. Bowles was elected Moderator of the Synod of the Pacific as it opened its Fall meeting on the afternoon of Thursday, October 10. Bowles, pastor of the St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Aptos, has served as the Chair of the Mission Finance Committee of the Synod, and has given strong leadership to the Synod during the years he has served as a commissioner from San José Presbytery. His term as Moderator will continue through the beginning of the October 2003 meeting of Synod. In the photo, Bob is being installed to the office of Moderator by his predecessor Moderator, Elder John Brineger.

Bob thus continues a distinguished career of service to the church, having previously served as Chair of San José Presbytery's Committee on Preparation for Ministry, Chair of their Committee on Ministry and as Moderator of the Presbytery. His entire ordained ministry has been served within San José Presbytery, having previously served at the Presbyterian Church of Sunnyvale and the Stone Church of Willow Glen.
